Coffee Tasting Kit & Sampler

A coffee tasting kit, also sold as a coffee sampler, is a curated set of 3-4 different specialty coffees in smaller portions, designed for side-by-side comparison so you can explore origins, processing methods, and flavor profiles.

The Beanalyzer Kit is our coffee tasting kit and sampler pack: you pick any three of our current single-origin coffees and receive them as 5 oz (141 g) bags of whole bean, roasted to order in Richmond, BC. It costs $39.50. Brewed side by side, the three show what origin, processing and roast level do to the cup.

How to Get the Most from a Coffee Tasting Kit

Brew all three coffees using the same method and ratio — pour-over works best for tasting because it produces the cleanest, most transparent cup. Use 15g of coffee to 240ml of water at 93°C for each.

Taste them side by side, not on different days. Your palate calibrates when you compare directly. Start by smelling each cup, then sip at different temperatures — many coffees reveal new flavors as they cool. The QR code on each bag links to that coffee's brew guide and flavour notes.

Take notes. Even simple ones like "this one is fruitier" or "I'd drink this every morning" help you build a coffee vocabulary and figure out your preferences. That's the whole point — once you know what you like, you can shop with confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's included in the Beanalyzer Kit?

You choose 3 coffees from our current lineup. Each comes as a 5 oz (141 g) bag of whole bean, enough for 6-8 cups, with a QR code to brew guides, recipes and flavour notes for each coffee.

Is a tasting kit the same as a coffee sampler?

Yes. Both names mean a set of smaller bags of different coffees, so you can try several before buying a full bag. Ours, the Beanalyzer Kit, is three 5 oz (141 g) bags of whole bean, and you choose the three from our current single origins.

Is a coffee tasting kit good for beginners?

It's the best way to start. Instead of committing to a full bag of one coffee, you try three different origins side by side. This quickly teaches you what flavor profiles you enjoy — fruity and bright? Chocolatey and nutty? — so your next purchase is based on experience, not guesswork.

How should I brew a tasting kit?

Pour-over is ideal for tasting because it produces the cleanest cup. Brew all three coffees using the same method, ratio (1:16), and water temperature (93°C). Taste them side by side, starting while hot and revisiting as they cool — many coffees reveal new flavors at lower temperatures.

Are coffee tasting kits and samplers good gifts?

Yes. The Beanalyzer Kit is three coffees to taste side by side at home. Each bag's QR code opens that coffee's brew guide and flavour notes, so they don't need to know anything about coffee to start. It works for a birthday, a housewarming or the holidays.
