Specialty decaf coffee is high-quality coffee that has had 99.9% of its caffeine removed using chemical-free methods like Swiss Water Process or sugarcane EA, while preserving the complex flavours of the original bean.
Decaf doesn't mean flavourless. Our decaf coffees are specialty-grade beans decaffeinated using the Swiss Water Process or sugarcane EA method — both chemical-free processes that preserve the origin character. We source decaf the same way we source everything: directly from producers we trust, roasted in small batches in Vancouver. The result is a decaf that stands on its own, not an afterthought.

The decaffeination method matters. Swiss Water Process uses only water to remove caffeine — no chemicals — and produces a clean, true-to-origin flavour. Sugarcane EA (ethyl acetate) uses a naturally derived compound from sugarcane and tends to preserve a bit more sweetness and body. Both are excellent.
For espresso, look for decaf with chocolate and caramel notes — these translate well under pressure. For filter, look for brighter, fruitier profiles. Our ColomBias Decaf works beautifully in both — it's versatile enough for espresso machines and clean enough for pour-over.
Brew decaf the same way you'd brew regular coffee. Same ratios, same water temperature, same grind size. The only difference is you can enjoy it at 10pm without regretting it at 2am.

Our decaf coffees use the Swiss Water Process or sugarcane EA method. Swiss Water uses only water — green coffee is soaked to extract caffeine while preserving flavour compounds, removing 99.9% of caffeine. Sugarcane EA uses ethyl acetate derived from sugarcane, a naturally occurring compound, to dissolve caffeine. Both methods are chemical-free and preserve the complex flavours of the original bean.
Yes — when the bean quality and decaf method are right. The key is starting with specialty-grade beans (not commodity leftovers) and using a gentle decaffeination process. Our decaf is sourced from the same producers we use for our regular coffees and roasted on its own profile. In blind cuppings, many people can't tell the difference.
Not quite — decaf contains about 2-5mg of caffeine per cup, compared to 95-200mg in regular coffee. That's a 97-99% reduction. For most people, this trace amount has no noticeable effect. Swiss Water Process removes 99.9% of caffeine, making it one of the most effective methods available.
Absolutely. Our decaf coffees are available in espresso grind and work well under pressure. Expect a slightly lighter body compared to caffeinated espresso, but with proper extraction you'll get good crema and flavour. Our ColomBias Decaf pulls a sweet, balanced shot with chocolate and stone fruit notes.
