Fruity & Floral Coffee Beans
Fruity and floral coffees are specialty beans with bright flavor profiles — expect citrus, berry, stone fruit, jasmine, and tea-like complexity, typically from African and exotic-variety origins.
Fruity and floral coffee beans taste of citrus, berries, stone fruit or jasmine rather than chocolate and nuts. Those notes come from origin, variety and processing, and a lighter roast keeps them. Ours are single-origin lots named down to the farm, roasted to order in Richmond, BC, from $24.50 a bag.

Most are omniroast and work as filter or espresso, though filter brewing tends to bring out the most clarity and origin character. Each coffee's page lists the methods it is roasted for.

How to Choose a Fruity or Floral Coffee
Start with what kind of fruit flavor you enjoy. Berry and wine-like notes are common in Ethiopian naturals — think blueberry, strawberry, and fermented fruit. Citrus and stone fruit (lemon, peach, apricot) are more typical of washed African and Central American coffees. Tropical fruit (mango, passionfruit) shows up in exotic varieties like Sidra and Gesha.
Processing method shapes fruitiness. Natural (dry) process coffees tend to have the most intense fruit character because the bean dries inside the whole cherry, and the fruit ferments around it as it dries — little if any sugar actually crosses into the seed. Washed coffees are brighter and cleaner — the fruit is more like citrus zest than jam. If you're new to fruity coffees, start with a washed Ethiopian — it's bright without being overwhelming.
For brew method, pour-over (V60, Chemex) brings out the most clarity and lets you taste each flavor note distinctly. But most of these coffees also make incredible espresso — expect a dynamic, fruit-forward shot very different from a traditional chocolate-and-nut espresso. Try both and see which you prefer.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes coffee taste fruity?
Fruity flavors in coffee come from the interaction of origin, variety, and processing. African origins (especially Ethiopia and Kenya) naturally produce beans with higher fruit-acid compounds. Natural processing, where the bean dries inside the cherry, intensifies fruitiness because the fruit ferments around the seed as it dries. Lighter roast profiles preserve these delicate flavor compounds rather than roasting them out.
What's the difference between fruity and flavored coffee?
Fruity coffee gets its flavor naturally from the bean itself — the origin, variety, altitude, and processing create genuine fruit and floral notes without any added flavoring. Flavored coffee has artificial or natural flavorings sprayed onto the beans after roasting. Every Beanlytics coffee is 100% unflavored — the tasting notes you read (berry, citrus, jasmine) are what the bean naturally tastes like.
Can I use fruity coffee for espresso?
Usually, yes. Most of the coffees in this collection are omniroast and work for espresso, filter, and everything in between; a few are roasted for filter only, and each coffee's page says which. Fruity coffees pulled as espresso produce a bright, dynamic shot with berry or citrus character. It's a different experience from a traditional chocolate-and-caramel espresso, but many specialty drinkers prefer it. Start with a 1:2 ratio at 93°C and adjust from there.
Which fruity coffee should I try first?
If you've never had a fruity specialty coffee, start with one of our Ethiopian offerings. Ethiopian heirloom varieties are the gateway — they have approachable citrus and berry notes that are recognisable even to new specialty drinkers. Once you're comfortable, try a Gesha or a Sidra for more exotic, layered complexity.
Do you ship fruity coffees across Canada?
Yes — we ship Canada-wide from our roastery in Richmond, BC. Roasted within 1 business day of your order and shipped within 1–2 business days. Delivery is free across Metro Vancouver with no minimum, and shipping anywhere else in Canada is free on orders over $50.
